A 29-year-old man was arrested on charges of vehicular-homicide and DUI after the driver of a car he crashed into died, Westminster police said Saturday.
Juan Ignacio Duran was arrested Friday evening after the head-on collision in northwest Westminster. Duran, who was taken to the hospital and then to the Jefferson County jail, was also arrested on a charge of reckless driving resulting in death.
A hometown for Duran wasn’t available.
The driver of the other car was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, but died from injuries sustained in the accident. The driver’s name wasn’t released.
At about 5 p.m. Friday, police responded to a report of someone driving erratically in the parking lot of a movie theater at Church Ranch Road and Westminster Boulevard. Callers told police the vehicle nearly side-swiped another car, drove over a curb and hit several bushes.
One of the officers who responded said the suspect was driving north at a high rate of speed in the southbound lanes of Westminster Boulevard, approaching 112th Avenue. The car then crashed head-on with another vehicle, police said.
