69-year-old male inmate dies at Boulder County Jail

An inmate died at the Boulder County Jail on Saturday evening.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Mike Wagner said that the inmate was a 69-year-old man, and the death appears to be medical in nature.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, a deputy in a medium security area noticed the inmate needed medical assistance. Jail medical staff and other deputies found the man was unconscious, and began trying to revive him. They gave him CPR and also used an automated external defibrillator.

Paramedics from AMR Ambulance and Boulder Fire Department also tried to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead around 6 p.m., the release states.

An initial investigation determined the man was sitting and talking with another inmate when he collapsed, apparently from an “acute medical issue,” the release states. Officials do not suspect foul play and the death is not considered suspicious.
