Boulder police allege that a woman spent more than two years bilking an elderly man out of more than $140,000 and physically abusing him on at least one occasion.
Diana Marie Hart, 64, was formally charged on Thursday with criminal exploitation of an at-risk person, theft from an at-risk person, theft between $100,000 to $1 million and assault on an at-risk person, according to online court records.
An arrest warrant affidavit states that neighbors of the alleged victim, who is 75 years old, became concerned that Hart had been taking advantage of him and had struck him in the face on at least one occasion.
In an interview with detectives, the man said he met Hart in May of 2016 at a concert in Central Park in downtown Boulder and they went to her apartment after she offered him a massage, according to the affidavit.
The two struck up a romantic relationship, and the man told investigators that Hart quickly began asking for money to pay bills, pay off debts and give to her business partner in Florida. She allegedly told the man that the business partner was owed millions of dollars for a patent, and she would eventually collect a portion of it, according to police.
