Driver facing attempted-murder charge in Arapahoe County hit-and-run now alleged to be intentional

New charges filed on Thursday allege an Aurora man intentionally caused an April 5 hit-and-run that injured two juveniles, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman said.

Oghaleoghene Atunu, 21, was initially arrested Saturday¬†on charges related to reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash. Thursday’s charges were filed after additional evidence was found, said Gary Cutler, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.

The charges now include attempted murder, child abuse and first-degree assault. Atunu faces 15 total charges, according to a news release from state patrol.

The hit-and-run occurred on April 5 when three juvenile males were walking on the sidewalk of East Fair Place, just west of Fundy Way, in unincorporated Arapahoe County. Two males were struck and one was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the news release.

The new charges allege that Atunu drove his 2004 Buick into two juveniles intentionally, Cutler said.
