Young teenage girl, waking home from school, escapes abduction attempt in Broomfield

A young teen walking home from school in Broomfield foiled a kidnapping attempt Monday, running to safety, police said.

The attempted abduction happened at about 4:15 p.m. in the Broadlands neighborhood, on Whitney Circle near West 144th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard, according to a news release.

The girl told investigators she was walking when a man got out of a parked pickup truck and “attempted to physically push her inside,” police said. “The girl was able to escape and ran to safety.”

The suspect is described as a white man, likely in his 30s, with an average build and average height. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored pickup truck with a crew cab. Police released photos of a truck that “appears to be a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500” with aftermarket wheels and “what appears to be a missing center cap from the rear passenger side wheel.”

Anyone with information on the incident, or on a possible suspect, is asked to call 911 or Detective Vince Lopez, 720-887-5249.
