A part-time Eagle Crest High School band instructor has been arrested in Jefferson County onsuspicion of sexual assault by someone in a position of trust involving a teen-age student, authorities say.
Geoffrey Adam Banninger, 23, also was arrested Wednesday for investigation of a pattern of child sexual assault involving a 16-year-old Eagle Crest girl, according to a news release by Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Arapahoe County sheriff’s investigators called Jefferson County detectives Wednesday to refer an allegation that Banniger had been having sex with the girl in his Golden home.
The investigators later arrested Banniger, who also had been a volunteer coach with the Arvada High School band.
The Cherry Creek School District has fired Banniger and the Jefferson County School District has banned him from having access to schools and students.
Banninger had his first court appearance Thursday and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
