Suspect shot during Aurora apartment invasion

One of three people who intruded into an Aurora apartment early Saturday morning was shot, apparently by the apartment’s resident.

The resident was interviewed by police and released, and the suspect who was shot remained hospitalized Sunday. Two other suspects involved the incident have been arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, police spokesman Anthony Camacho said.

“If your friend gets shot during the commission of the crime, if your friend gets shot by someone else, you can still be charged for that crime,” he said Sunday.

Marcus Smith, 25, and Cubanicqua Lawrence, 23, will both face the attempted murder charges, police said, and Lawrence will also face burglary and robbery counts. The third suspect has not been charged.

The incident began around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in an apartment in the 2100 block of Rifle Way. A resident in the apartment awoke to find the three suspects in his home, according to police.

A struggle ensued between the suspects and the resident, and the third suspect was shot during that struggle.
