Suspect arrested in arson at Temple Emanuel in Pueblo

An arsonist struck Temple Emanuel in Pueblo on Wednesday, and police arrested a woman suspected of setting the fire.

In November, a Pueblo man threatened to destroy the same temple, the second-oldest synagogue in Colorado. Investigators do not believe Wednesday’s fire is connected to the November threat.

Firefighters and police responded Wednesday to the temple, 1325 N. Grand Ave., and firefighters quickly put out the fire. Investigators identified a suspect and arrested 62-year-old Patricia DeCesaro, who was taken into custody at the scene, according to a news release.

DeCesaro was booked into the Pueblo County jail on suspicion of first-degree arson and second-degree burglary.

In November, Richard Holzer, 27, was charged with intentionally attempting to obstruct persons in the enjoyment of their free exercise of religious beliefs, through force and the attempted use of explosives and fire.
